Project: Street Furniture and Shopfront improvements in Roman Road, East London
Client: Tower Hamlets Council and Leaside Regeneration
Consultants: Price & Myers and Local Community
Contract Value: £100,000
Project Description
This intervention involves a range of local Stakeholders. Local multi-ethnic retailers, Tower Hamlets Highways and Planning departments, local Estate Management Groups and Leaside Regeneration.
The scheme is in its early stages and will re-brand the run-down image of Roman Road by providing new street furniture, shopfront improvements and signage. Management of “Place” will take precedence over traffic management.
An important aspect of this project is to successfully consult with local stakeholders and achieve support for a the new vision for Roman Road. Street clutter will be removed and a clear and cohesive redesign will, it is hoped, eventually extend to shopfront works, removing ugly roller shutters and poorly designed facades.
New street lighting and decoration reflecting the haberdashery business history is, we hope just the first stage in a long running regeration project.
